The MSMS Senate has been creating bills and resolutions throughout the school year. Recently, they have consistently pushed to pass deserving bills and present them to the administration. During the last few meetings, the Senate has passed thirteen bills to present. Out of these thirteen, two were passed by administration.

The two bills were passed by Yousef Abu-Salah and Mariana Strawn. Senator Abu-Salah’s bill allowed sports to be considered as valid “clubs” when applying for privilege plans and Senator Strawn’s bill specified times for the residence hall computer labs to be open:  7 a.m. to 11:50 p.m.

Senator Abu-Salah spoke about how it felt to get a bill passed. “I had created a bill that was going to allow sports to be allowed as clubs on Privilege Plans, which I thought was already allowed. Since I found out that this was not the case, I really wanted the bill to be passed. When it was finally passed by both the Senate and the administration, I felt like I really made a change.”

He also spoke on getting bills passed by administration. “If you want your bills to be passed by administration, make sure that they are not too outlandish. The administration will not pass a bill that changes too many things around the school, as shown by the countless bills that were never passed. I know this sounds sad and all and kinda limits what we can change, but it’s true.”
