The Class of 2026 finalized its graduation selections Feb. 24, choosing declamation speaker Rebecca Sun; a class poem by Trinity Martin, a class quote by Robin Dance and a class motto by Sun; and teachers Tony Green and Lauren Zarandona who will read names at commencement.
Seniors met in Nissan Auditorium to vote on the final decisions ahead of graduation. The graduating class selected “Transfiguration” by Martin as its poem, “some of us will make tiny ripples and others will send waves crashing, but each one will change the surface of the water forever,” by Dance as the class quote and “the end of a journey, but the beginning of another,” written by Sun as the class motto.
The meeting also gave seniors a chance to reflect on their time at MSMS and what graduation means to them as a class.
Senior Sam Smith said, “Overall, the meeting gave us a good opportunity to reflect on what it means to be an MSMS student and the connection we have built as a community. I am glad the speakers are able to express how we feel at graduation.”
“The speeches were awesome. I felt inspired and nostalgic,” senior Anderson Chaney said. “They made me excited for graduation, thankful for my teachers and grateful for the Class of 2026.”
Additionally, Green, a physics teacher, and Zarandona, a math teacher, were selected to read the names of graduating seniors as they receive their diplomas on May 23.
