MSMS was named along with more than 8,000 institutions whose Canvas pages were affected by hacking group ShinyHunters. The group warned in a message Thursday they would give Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, through May 12 to “negotiate a settlement” before “everything is leaked.”
Biology teacher Jason Palagi sent an email addressed to students and faculty Thursday evening stating, “the only information in Canvas regarding MSMS users is their name and MSMS email address.” Palagi also said, “there does not seem to be any clear timetable for [Canvas’s] return.”
The MSMS Canvas page currently reads, “Canvas is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance. Check back soon.”
Editor’s Note: MSMS’s Canvas has become functional again as of Friday morning. Palagi updated the student body and faculty Friday morning to share Instructure has shut down all Free-for-Teacher accounts, which they say the hackers exploited.
