Juniors elect class officers in close competitions

Days of campaigning paid off for newly elected Class of 2025 President Maurice Hunter, Vice President Yaerim Choi, Secretary Cratin Quinelly, Treasurer Andy Chen and Historian Jaidyn Bryant when their classmates elected them to their positions in September.

MSMS juniors gathered in Nissan Auditorium on Sept. 21 for elections. Candidates wrapped up their campaigns with speeches intended to sway voters. Two of the five races were closely contested and headed to runoff elections. The treasurer race was so competitive that the final selection was decided by only three votes.

President Maurice Hunter

Hunter said he ran to be a positive representative of his class. Though he was initially nervous about running for this major position, his friends encouraged him. While Maurice has many goals to make this year special, his main objective is to give juniors all the tools necessary to succeed by fostering more inclusion and unity among the class.

Vice President Yaerim Choi

Choi, the new vice president, had a campaign strategy of trying to be a friend to everyone she met. Her plan carried over into her speech, where she actively engaged with the audience and encouraged feedback.

Secretary Cratin Quinnelly

Quinnelly had a very similar strategy to other candidates: He wanted to get to know the students in the class around him. He said he saw the separation between friend groups and wanted to break this barrier. His main goal for the upcoming year is to ensure the junior class has a strong community so students will rely not only on their friend group but also on other students in the class.

Treasurer Andy Chen

While he did not have a major focus on flyers or spreading his name, Chen still had a focus in his campaign: getting to know everyone. Coming from a theater background, Chen said he tried to use that background to deliver his speech with confidence. He said his main goal for the year is to hit all aspects of doing his job well.   Historian Jaidyn Bryant

Bryant’s goal was to get to know everybody on campus. During the time when all the juniors were getting to know each other, she formed bonds with many people. She said her main goal for the upcoming year is to strengthen the junior community and to capture memories so students can hold on to them forever.
