The time has come yet again for MSMS’s annual Winter Formal. As exams are approaching, MSMS students are looking forward to what many have called the best dance of the year.

Students involved in the Winter Formal Committee have been hard at work, from planning the decorations and layout to organizing the DJ and the ballots for the court.

Coach Veleria Scott, along with the committee, has selected Pope Banquet Hall as the location for the dance. It begins promptly at 7:00PM with tickets being sold throughout this week in Hooper. Singles tickets are $15, while couples are $25.

The dance will have a “Harry Potter” theme, and the color scheme will be composed of blue, silver, and white.

Committee member Katie Stovall explained that the “Yule Ball” theme is a nod to the popular movie series.

We all really love the Harry Potter movies, and it just seemed like the perfect fit. It’s elegant and fun,” Stovall said.

“We wanted the theme to tie in with this year’s Residential Life theme of ‘Movies,’ and the Yule Ball is really significant in the movies and matches the formal dance” added fellow committee member McKenzie Jones.

While many students have voiced concerns over the dedication to stay true to the theme and fully bring to life the grandeur of the scene from a much-loved movie, Stovall asks that students “remember we are working on a budget.”

Still, Jones believes that the decorations should add magic to the event. “We’re really excited for you guys to see the decorations. Mrs. [Angie] Jones has made great paintings of insignias and Harry Potter related images,” Jones said.

Junior Jackson Sparkman is “extremely excited” for his first MSMS formal dance and hopes that “everybody comes out to have fun.”

Stovall hopes that everyone attending “will love it.”

“I’m excited for you all too see the larger decorations we’ve prepared. We all just hope that you guys have as much fun as possible!” Stovall added.
