Blue Waves News and Notes: Week of Jan. 29

Among the highlights of the week of Jan. 29, select students met with state representatives and legislators in Jackson for MSMS Capitol Day, FBLA competitors returned home with 16 awards from their Northern Regional Competition and MSMS soccer teams had mixed results in district playoffs.

MSMS Capitol Day 

Select students met with state representatives and legislators in Jackson on Jan. 31. While there, students shared their experiences at MSMS with state leaders. They also toured the chambers of the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate. 

 

Soccer vs. Grenada

Frazer and Goen soccer teams traveled to Grenada on Jan. 29 to compete against the Grenada Chargers. Goen lost 7-0, while Frazer also lost 4-1. 

Soccer vs. Philadelphia 

The Goen soccer team competed against Philadelphia on Jan. 31 for its last district game before playoffs. After ending overtime in a tie, Goen lost on penalties 3-2. Despite the loss, Goen advanced to playoffs. 

Soccer Weekend Playoffs

Frazer and Goen soccer teams competed in the first round of playoffs on Feb. 3. The Frazer team, playing at home against Coahoma County, won 8-1 and advanced to the second round of playoffs. The Goen team, competing away against Vardaman, lost 2-1.

Future Business Leaders of America competitors returned home with 16 awards after traveling to Northeast Community College in Booneville to compete in their District competition on Feb. 1. Winners include:

Alexandra Bodmer: International Business, third place 

Yash Malhotra and Daniel Van: Marketing, fourth place 

Kelstin Holmes: Sports & Entertainment Management, fifth place

Ashton Lollis: Business Ethics, second place 

Jaidyn Bryant: Public Policy, first place 

Sydney Beane: Word Processing, first place 

Laykin Dixon: Advertising, sixth place 

Cohen Suttles: Business Communication, second place

Georgianna McKenny: Cyber Security, six place

Ulan Sarolia: Healthcare Administration, third place 

La’Destiny Lemock: Human Resource Management, second place 

Natalie Gonzalez-Zuniga: Journalism, first place 

Jeremy Hathorn: Organizational Leadership, fourth place 

Kinsley Collum: Personal Finance, fifth place
