The MSMS Frazer soccer team lost 3-1 Friday at home against Tupelo Christian Preparatory School, with Junior Miles Brown’s scoring the Blue Waves’ lone goal.
Earlier Friday, the Goen players forfeited their match against TCPS, scheduled for that night, after scheduling conflicts and academic commitments left the team short of players, with no opportunity to reschedule the mandatory game in the region.
Brown said the Blue Waves could focus more on controlling the direction of the game in their next match.
“We could definitely try to get the ball forward more, don’t play it to the middle and play it to the sides,” Brown said.
Junior Josh Davis said he felt his team members played well despite the final result, and more practices would help them improve.
“I think we did a really great job defending. I know we [went down] 2 goals, but we held our own for the most part,” Davis said. “Since it’s finals week, we didn’t have enough practices to actually get prepared … but once we get enough practices in, I think we’ll be a top team in the [district].”
Senior co-captain Kagan Labauve said he wants to share feedback with his team members to help them improve in the future.
“There are many times where we got to the ball, and we just stayed in the middle … and it came back to bite us,” Labauve said. “ I think midfield needs a little bit of work spreading out. I noticed they were clumped up a lot of times, but as soon as we get that down, I think we can start winning more games.”
Coach Mallory Streetman said she was proud of the team’s dedication throughout the game.
“I think we did a really good job staying the whole game, just hustling and not giving up on the ball no matter what,” Streetman said. “We got a little bit defeated at the end of the game when they scored that third goal, but we were locked in and engaged the whole game trying to score.”
Looking ahead, Streetman said the team could work on strengthening fundamental skills.
“[We need to focus on] looking up and using each other, finding our teammates, relying on [ourselves] and finishing our balls,” Streetman said.
