The MSMS swim team saw success in the Mississippi High School Athletics Association Class 1 Swim Championship, with juniors Katie Chung and Daniel Hu placing third and second in the girls 200-yard individual medley and boys 100-yard butterfly, respectively. Juniors Katie Chung, Catherine Shao, Jordyn Taylor and Tejasvi Uppu earned the Goen team third place in the 200-yard medley relay. Juniors Samantha Diamond, Chung, Shao and Uppu earned the Goen team fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hu said he was happy with the meeting despite unforeseen conflicts.
“Hopefully next year … the ACT isn’t going to fall on the day of the state meet. But, I think everyone can be happy with the results, because there were a lot of changes last minute,” Hu said.
Junior Uppu said the team performed well.
“We came together in the end, and we all shaved off a second so that we could place a medal. So, I’m proud of us for being able to do that, especially in the relay,” Uppu said.
Frazer captain John Broome said the team showed growth.
“We were missing a lot of swimmers for various reasons, and the team still placed well, with multiple swimmers making it to the podium,” Broome said. “Our coach trains us with the expectation of excellence, but what he truly wants to see is growth, and I think the team showed that this year.”
