The Blue Waves soccer team played Shannon High School on Nov. 11, with the Goen team winning 3-0 and the Frazer team tying 1-1.
Senior co-captain Isabel Beckman scored all three goals for the Goen win, and the team prevented Shannon players from scoring a single goal. Beckman said she was happy with the team’s achievement.
“I was proud of how well we performed,” Beckman said. “We didn’t have any practices since our first game last Thursday, but I think we improved a lot.”
Junior Hutch Clemons scored the Frazer goal, then the Shannon team scored from a free kick. Clemons said he was proud of his goal, and the game was a good learning experience for the team.
“One of the highs of the game was that I scored a goal from 40 yards away,” Clemons said. “The game helped us prepare for teams we’ll face in the future. We need to work toward maintaining the shape of our formation, and our defense needs to move more as a unit.”
Senior co-captain Sophia Dean likewise said the game helped the Goen team grow.
“This last game showed us we need to work on communication and position spacing,” Dean said. “It was a good transition into playing harder teams.”
Beckman said the Goen team has the confidence and eagerness to improve.
“We have momentum right now, and this game will continue to propel us forward,” Beckman said.
