Alisen Reed is MSMS’s brand new Resident Assistant. Her story is covered in this week’s RA Spotlight.

On Dec. 17, 1996, Reed was born to Alvin and Jean Reed. Raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, she attended Isidore Newman High school. At her high school, she participated in cheerleading and track and field. During her childhood, Reed enjoyed her multiple family vacations with her mother’s side of the family, and she even developed a unique talent.

“While growing up, I developed a great impersonation of Stitch from the television show ‘Lilo and Stitch,’” Reed shared.

In her spare time, Reed enjoys to hanging with friends, singing, and running. She also likes to watch NFL football, especially the New Orleans Saints. Reed is also a big reader, her favorite book being “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee.

After graduating high school, she proceeded to the Mississippi University for Women where she is currently a junior. Her major that she is pursuing is communication with a minor in music. At the W, Reed is involved in multiple clubs: Troubadour Social Club, Jester Honorary Social Club, Elite Modeling Squad and Student Programming Board.

Reed became an RA after being referred by a friend, who is now her co-worker.

“I found out about the position through one of my friends, Alexis Montgomery, and I just gave it a shot. I thought that it would be good for me to improve my leadership skills,” Reed explained.

Reed has been working as a Resident Assistant for almost a month now, and she says the best part is just getting to know all the girls that live in the building. The students are adjusting and getting to know her as well.

Senior Hannah Craft comments, “I haven’t had many interactions with her so far. I introduced myself to her, and she told me a little about herself. Although she hasn’t been her long, she is fitting in already.”

Not only are the students getting acquainted with Reed, but the other RAs are learning about her as well.

Resident Assistant Miraculas Clemons says, “She’s a great person inside and out. She’s adjusting very well, and she’s doing a very good job with trying to learn each student’s name and stay on top of things in the building.”

In the future, Reed says she plans on keeping up with the students once they graduate because of how much she loves writing letters and knowing how things are going. After she graduates, Reed wants to move to Dallas, Texas and go into either public relations or broadcasting. She also dreams of living in Rome, Italy one day. No matter what, Reed plans to keep going through all obstacles; her favorite quote is “I am learning everyday to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be inspire me not terrify me.”
