The Blue Waves soccer teams exploded into the 2025 season with a combined 12 goals against Columbus High School on Nov. 6.

The Goen team opened the evening with a commanding 7–0 shutout, and the Frazer team followed with a  5–0 victory, giving MSMS an undefeated start to the year.

Senior co-captain Isabel Beckman led the Goen charge, recording a hat trick and setting the tone for a confident debut. On the Frazer roster, juniors Khang Tran and Hutch Clemons each netted two goals, highlighting the new attacking firepower ready to make an impact this season.

From kickoff to the final whistle, both squads played with purpose, energy and a clear hunger to prove themselves in district competition.

“We worked really great as a team,” Beckman said. “We have some minor kinks to get out, but all in all the girls came out to play — even the ones that have never played before.”

Goen co-captain Sophia Dean said the matchup and the team’s focus moving forward was impressive.
“[Columbus] held their heads level and played a competitive game,” Dean said. “After this game we plan to be more focused in practice and work really hard.”

The Frazer captains said this year’s team is shaping up well.

“Going into the season, I feel more confident in this team; we are more defensively focused,” co-captain Kagan Labauve said.

“We have hopes of winning district and making a deep run in the playoffs,” co-captain Om Patel added.
