The Reads of the Future
February 19, 2018
January is already over, and February is only here for a couple more days. 2018 is going by in a quick breath, but these books will make you stop, slowing down the world around you. The AP Chemistry tests, the physics tests and more just keep adding up, stressing your mind to another level. The best cure for this is to forget reality and dive into a good book. This year has many new authors debuting and award-winning authors coming back. Here are some books to look forward to this year:
“The English Wife,” by New York Times best-selling author Lauren Willig, came out on January 8. Willig crafted a story about a loving couple living in New York during the Gilded Age, Annabelle and Bayard Van Duyvil with their charming three-year-old twins. Their lives change drastically when Bayard found with a knife stabbed in his chest. With the rumors of his wife having an affair, Annabelle is the prime suspect; however, she is nowhere to be found. Janie, Bayard’s sister, collaborates with a reporter to find the truth. As she keeps looking, more truths are uncovered and she finds that her brother is not who she thought he was. “The English Wife” is a perfect book for people who like older setting books and mystery books.
“Fear,” by Dirk Kurbjuweit, was released on January 25. This book is not for the faint-hearted and will show the world in a completely new light. Family is everything, but how far does the love and protection of a family go? Like when the Tiefenthalers are being stalked by a neighbor, whose actions cumulatively become more and more sinister. Things are sacrificed in the name of family, but how far does this family go?
“The Elizas,” by Sara Shepard, comes out on April 17 as her adult debut. Eliza Fontaine is writing her debut book when she is rescued from the bottom of a pool. Her family all believe that it is a suicide attempt, but Eliza believes someone pushed her. Eliza wants to get to the bottom of her attack but is distracted by her book publication. As the days go on, there are more questions unraveled. Her book and her life keep getting more similar and there is no boundary between reality and fiction. Eliza’s life is real, right? And her book is fictional, right? But why is it combining? This book is great for thrill seekers and mystery lovers.
“The Colour of Bee Larkham’s Murder,” is Sarah J. Harris’s first adult book after writing a young adult series, and it comes out on May 3. Jasper Wishar suffers from synesthesia, which triggers a different sense when another sense is activated, in other terms when he hears something he is able to see colors. One day he believes that something happened to his neighbor, Bee Larkham, probably murder. Jasper tries to untangle all of his memories and find the truth. However, someone is trying to stop him.
2018 is a great year for book lovers, for there is more to come and relieve us of our misery of reality. Life is hard, and everyone needs a break from it; this is the best way. Even if you do not enjoy these newer books, classics are the best to go back and reread.
