The Blue Waves are Serving Up a Season

Serve, spike, save: The MSMS Girls’ Volleyball Team is set to meet soon for the first time this year.

Due to scheduling conflicts in Stark Recreation Center with MUW’s new athletic programs, the girls’ volleyball team has yet to meet this year. Club leader, Erin Owens, is set to resolve it, however.

According to Owens, volleyball club meets twice a week, where they cover fundamentals like hitting, passing and drilling.

Volleyball at MSMS is not the same as it would be at any other high school. Many of the new players have little to no experience. One such junior, Indu Nandula, has only played for one season at her home high school.

“Anyone can learn to play, but it’s the fun of the sport that brings us all together,” explains Nandula.

Junior Lillian Le, who has played volleyball at her home school for four years, says that she is most excited about “drills and learning more techniques” or “maybe tweaking some skills.”

Just as any opportunity provided at MSMS, anyone can do anything. Similarly, with volleyball, you don’t have to be a Kerry Walsh Jennings just to enjoy the sport, as many girls will learn throughout the course of this school year.
