On Thursday, Nov. 10, the First Vice President of Columbus BancorpSouth, Carey Edwards, visited MSMS to give students a presentation on personal finance.

While attendants munched on the complimentary pizza provided, Mr. Edwards gave a lecture on different topics, such as loans, budgeting and saving.

After his lecture, Mr. Edwards brought out bingo cards containing more finance terms as an easy way for students to learn the vocabulary and concepts from his talk.

Mariana Strawn, one of the students who attended the workshop, found the experience helpful. “I decided to attend because I thought that the experience would be beneficial. I definitely thought that it was. I learned new terms and figures that I hadn’t thought existed. I now feel more prepared to handle my finances in the future,” she said.

Strawn said that one of the most interesting things she learned was how financial recessions occurred about once every decade.

“I  thought that was extremely interesting, and is definitely something to lookout for.”
