The facility located on the Mississippi University for Women campus known as “Stark” is home to various athletics. Stark is located at the corner of 11th Street South and 5th Avenue South.  It contains several internal facilities such as a gymnasium, a natatorium and a strength and conditioning room.

Pohl Gymnasium, named after Ody Pohl, has two basketball courts that can be changed into badminton or volleyball courts if needed. The gymnasium also has a dividing curtain that can divide the courts. The 570-seat bleachers also add to the gym’s professional and useable features.

The natatorium, or indoor pool, is equipped with six 25-yard lanes and ranges from 4- to 11.5-foot depths. The 157,560-gallon pool is also temperature regulated at 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 5,300-square-foot strength and conditioning room is equipped with Life Fitness, Precor, Cybex equipment, as well as rowers, steppers, treadmills, elliptical, and upper body ergo meters. It also has Hammer Strength free weights.

The Stark experience however, isn’t complete without full usage of the facilities and equipment. It also has smaller activities like ping-pong, racquetball, pool, foosball, and a running track.

Overall, Stark is a great place and way to exercise, relax, and receive wellness points to add to your privilege plan. Currently, Stark’s hours vary but regular hours will be maintained on August 20. MSMS senior Georgia Tucker advises students to “take full advantage of the relaxation and exercising opportunities Stark has to offer.

“I think Stark rocks. The classes that Stark provides upstairs are really fun for students interested,” Tucker added.
