Senior MSMS track and field team thrower Jatarious Lang placed second overall in shot put with a distance of 38 feet 7 inches at the April 4 Columbus Invitational meet held at Columbus High School.

Senior thrower Georgia Gibson said while only one person placed, this meet was beneficial for other members.

“Many people took a place within their heats, and a few people even got some new [personal records],” Gibson said. “Track and field is something I treasure and greatly appreciate [having] at MSMS. it is a stress reliever for me.”

The Columbus Invitational was the first track meet for junior thrower Audrey Guynes, who participated in both shot put and discus. Despite not winning, she said she is happy to be improving.

“I found the people to be very encouraging, and I even set a new personal record for my discus throw,” Guynes said. “It was very fun, but next time I go, I’ll be bringing sunscreen with me.”
