The MSMS tennis team lost 5-2 to Starkville High School at Starkville on Feb. 23.

The two doubles one teams won in straight sets.

Senior Kadie Van and junior Iris Xue won 6-0, 6-4 for Goen’s one doubles team. Seniors Gordon Welch and Nick Popescu won 6-4, 6-4 for the Frazer one doubles team.

Though this may not be the start of the season they were hoping for, players said they are still looking forward to the rest of the season.

“I’m looking forward to all the great matches coming up and [we’ll] hopefully be able to make it to state,” Van said.

“I’m really looking forward to improving my game and bonding with the rest of the tennis team,” Xue added. “I love the community our team has built so far, and I can’t wait to play the rest of the season with them.”
