This Tuesday the MSMS Lady Waves and Blue Waves took on Saint Joseph in excruciatingly cold weather. The Lady Waves lost 5-1 to the Bruins with a single goal from center-midfielder Emily Berry. The Blue Waves lost 5-2 with two goals from Trevor Allen on a penalty kick and Jeremiah Hunt with an assist from Dylan Johnson.

The Lady Waves had a rough start, scoring no goals in the first half. However, during the second half, junior Emily Berry scored the sole goal of the game.

“All I could focus on was getting one goal. It wasn’t about winning the game, though that’s important. I just wanted the team to realize that if we work together we really can accomplish anything through hard work and effort,” Berry said.

Although the Lady Waves didn’t win this one, they felt optimistic in light of their improvement. The last time the Lady Waves played Saint Joseph, the mercy rule was applied, meaning the team was losing by seven points after the first fifty minutes.

The Blue Waves saw an improvement as well. Last time the Blue Waves played Saint Joseph, they lost 5-0, so the two goals they scored this game were a victory. Senior Collin Jeck, described the morale of the team as high.

“We worked better as a team than we had for most of the season,” Jeck said.

However, it wasn’t all positive. “We played under rough conditions. It was very cold, which caused the energy to decrease,” Jeck added.

The Waves will be back on the field for their final two games of the season Jan. 24 against St. Andrew in Jackson, and for Senior Day, they will be taking on Yazoo County in Columbus on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m.
