The Much Awaited ‘Middle Child’

J.Cole did it again with the much awaited single “Middle Child.”  After collaborating and featuring with famous artists like Anderson Paak to 6lack, J. Cole showed his fans that he has been working on new things with his new release.

He shocked fans all around the world when he decided to drop “Middle Child, which was released January 23 through Dreamville Records. This record features the famous Canadian producer T- Minus, making it even more groundbreaking.

“Middle Child” can definitely be said to have made a big impact, reaching the Billboard Top 30 almost immediately. This song had many of his fans on the edge of the seats as they listened to 3 minutes and 34 seconds worth of pure mastery.

This song came almost a year after his popular album, “KOD”, which stands for Kids on Drugs, where he talks about controversial topics. J. Cole made absolutely sure that his fans were left pleased with his unique sound, beat and his unforgiving bars.

The title “Middle Child” is believed to explain how J. Cole feels about his stance in his relations and the music industry. He believes that he is the middle child and that people are counting him out. J. Cole raps to his haters, “This year gon’be different/ I set my intentions/ I promise to slap all that hate out your voice.” Throughout the song, J. Cole voices his opinion by sending messages to fans through his controversial bars.

J. Cole raps, “I studied the greats/ I am the greatest now.” He also lets his fans know that he’s done being stuck in the middle of rappers in the game, that people are going to finally see him.

It wouldn’t be a J. Cole song without a hint of controversy included, with a few lines about rappers fighting with each over for “clout”. Many fans believe that he is referring to the infamous Drake and Kanye beef trending on social media sights all around during 2018. J. Cole raps, “Just put the Rollie right back on my wrist/ This watch came from Drizzy/ he gave me a gift/ Back when the rap game was praying I’d diss/ They act like two legends cannot coexist/ But I’d never beef with no one for nothing/ If I smoke a rapper it’s gone be legit.” These lyrics are believed to be about his long-lasting friendship with the famous pop-singer and rapper Drake.

J. Cole also talks about many things that are plaguing the people around him or it can be inferred that he’s taking things that are plaguing African Americans. J. Cole says, “We coming from a long bloodline of trauma/ We raised by our mamas/ Lord we gotta heal/ We hurting our sisters/ the babies as well/ We killing our brothers/ they poisoned the well/ Distorted self-image/ we set up to fail.”

J. Cole’s “Middle Child” lets his fans and his fellow rappers know that he is coming and that this will be his year. He telling everyone to stop counting him out because he is going to do him and he makes it clear that he needs no approval or any promos. J. Cole makes sure to let his questioning fans know that 2019 will be his year. This song has many fans sitting at the edge of their seat waiting for J. Cole to drop this much-wanted album.
