The soccer season is about to begin its kickoff. The MSMS Lady Waves, along with the MSMS boys’ team, will start their seasons this Saturday, as the Lady Waves will face both Caledonia and New Hope in a double-header. For the past few weeks, the Lady Waves have participated in official practices, practicing individual drills and getting a feel for the game. Finally, the season is about to get into high gear, and both players and fans are looking forward to it.

The squad this year is composed of both juniors and seniors, with varying degrees of experience in soccer at MSMS and other programs.

Returning seniors are excited for the allure of the new season. “Returning into soccer season my senior year has been a mixture of pleasant familiarity combined with stress. I’m so happy to work with Coach Yarborough and my fellow captains again but the added coursework and apps of senior year make it much more strained,” Captain Sarah Kostmayer stated.

This squad also seems to be different from past years with increased energy and drive, which will power them throughout the season. “This year’s team has significantly more speed and aggression compared to last year. The girls are all willing to go that extra mile and put it exactly what they need to make all the pieces fit together. On top of that, our defense is going to be a powerhouse this year,” Kostmayer stated.

Many new juniors are looking forward to their first game in a MSMS jersey, and they cannot wait to be introduced into the storied MSMS soccer tradition. “I am really looking forward to the upcoming season because I really love to play soccer like at my old school. I think that this year will be really fun and enriching,” Mary Haden, MSMS junior, stated.

The same can be said of many seniors, some of whom have just now begun playing soccer. “I am really excited to finally begin playing soccer at MSMS. I wanted to do it last year, but I was bombarded with so many other commitments that it became impossible. This year, I still have college, but I feel I can handle it. I’ve never really played soccer before, but that doesn’t matter. All I want to do is get on that field and play the sport and have some fun. After all, Mr. Yarbrough is really good at making practices fun, even when he kindly tells us to run a nightmarish amount across the field,” Hannah Blansett, MSMS senior, stated.

The future of MSMS soccer looks bright as the team head into the season. With a team that has varying levels of experience and knowledge, the MSMS Lady Waves will aim to do better than last year and all grow as a team and individual players. “ (Put quote from coach)
