The 2015 Parents’ Day at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science was a stellar hit. I sat in the lobby and watched as parents and their children mingled with the school’s faculty and administration. The halls were lined with pink as the school’s emissaries served as guides into the unknown. The day was filled with exciting opportunities for the parents to visit their child’s classrooms, to join the PLUS Organization (Parents Lending United Support), attending seminars, to learn more about their PowerSchool account.

Tiana Spivey, an emissary said, “I was finished working at 11am but I just felt like helping out more.”

Emily O’Bryant, a PLUS Club member and the Delta region representative, spent the day recruiting members. She said, “The turnout this year is great.”

Mari Lapkin, a new member of the MSMS student body and family, said,  “Parents’ Day was a wonderful and heartwarming experience being able to interact with my family and teachers.” Jalexis Evans another member of the class of 2017 at MSMS said, “This year’s Parents Day was nice, simple and to the point. Lots of activities took place and I was excited to be part of it.”

In the school’s long history, success and excellence have become synonymous with the MSMS name and logo and the 2015 Parents’ Day was no exception.
