This past Friday, April 7, MSMS held the annual Latin Convention at Nissan Auditorium.

The students elected a consult and competed in several contests. The competitions included a costume contest, academic tests, olympika, a Latin quiz bowl, ten different art contests, and a spirit stick.

MSMS won the video competition category of epic prom dance-off and the overall prize of the spirit stick.

“Everything went pretty smoothly, plus we won the spirit stick which is about the coolest thing you can get,” said Meagan Pittman, junior.

Latin students from 10 schools over the state attended.

Olympika included chariot races, gladiator fights, and foot races. Students Joseph Mimbs and John Wells competed in the chariot race.

“John and I tried our hardest and ended up coming in third. Fourth place’s chariot fell apart and a girl broke her nose. I now appreciate horses much more than people,” Mimbs said.

The costume contest represented ancient Roman and Greek people. MSMS’s Gene Kloss and Alana Andrus won in a couples contest as Priam and Hecuba.

Students were also tested in Hooper and Nissan on mottos, phrases, history, derivatives in Greek and Roman history.

Last year the competition was hosted at MSU.
