Mrs. Lori Pierce has been awarded as the Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Foreign Language Association.

The awarding of this title gives Pierce the opportunity to attend the Southern Conference on Language Teaching in March, where she will represent the state of Mississippi, as well as compete for the award of Regional Foreign Language Teacher of the Year.

Pierce began working towards the award in January of 2015, when she helped work with the Mississippi World Language Teaching Framework.

“I believe it was primarily the work I did on that document that earned me this award. I would hope that they approved of my teaching philosophy,” Pierce said.

Pierce teaches French, German, and Latin at MSMS, and also sponsors Future Business Leaders of America, Junior Classical League, and French Club.

Mrs Pierce says that she hopes that in receiving this award she will be able to “ bring teachers together for collaboration that will improve us all.”

Mrs.Pierce also stated that working with the Mississippi World Language Teaching Standards taught her many things about world language education.

“I plan now to participate in training other teachers around the state on how to improve their teaching,” Pierce said.
