Gregory Thompson II is considered by many at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science to be a valuable member of the class of 2016.  Serving as an MSMS Emissary, the Blu Knights Step team President and the Student Government Elections Commissioner, Thompson likes diversity in his life and activities.

“As the elections commissioner, it is my job to put together a ballot and collect votes for student government and class officer elections at MSMS, ” said Thompson. “Once voting has taken place, I am responsible for verifying the winners and announcing the results to the student body.”

Thompson is also a multi-talented musician, “I play three instruments: guitar, piano and trumpet. I play guitar and piano primarily as a hobby, and I play the trumpet in the MSMS Blue Notes Orchestra.” Thompson is also part of the MSMS cross country and soccer teams.

Before attending MSMS, Thompson attended Byhalia High School in Marshall County. I chose to come to MSMS because I wanted to experience academic challenges and opportunities that my home school couldn’t provide. I also liked the idea of being surrounded by like-minded peers on a daily basis and living semi-independently in a residential environment,” he said.

Thompson hopes to further his life and career plans through medicine and a foreign language. “I plan on either majoring in biochemistry with a double minor in Spanish and computer science or double-majoring in biology and Spanish.

Thompson enjoys reading, working out and spending time with his friends when he has time.

“My biggest motivator while at MSMS has been thoughts of future opportunities that will be available to me in life as a result of my hard work,” he said.
