MSMS’s Grecian Urn Society, or Poetry Club, will be holding a book drive from October 9-23 for the local Boys and Girls Club. Grecian Urn Society’s secretary, Carly Sneed, is also a mentor at the Boys and Girls Club, and she organized the book drive to keep kids interested in reading with new books for the library.

“I know that we have the power to donate a lot. Between old test prep books no one will look at again and childhood fairy tales that our moms would sell at yard sales, there’s a lot we can donate,” she said.

Poetry Club co-president Joy Cariño said, “I’m very excited to see GUS expand from being a poetry enthusiasts/poetry awareness club into a club that is giving back to the community. I am especially excited to help out the Boys and Girls Club.”

The boxes for the donations will be in both of the dorms. Co-president Kendall Palmer expects a good turnout for the drive and said, “Everyone has books to give away.”

Vice-president Haley Hsu hopes to get every student at MSMS to participate. “If all of the students at MSMS donate one book alone, we would have over 200 books! I hope we can, at least, rally a few from each student and get enough to satisfy ‘the need to read,” she said.
