Senior Tehya Collier is a valuable member of the MSMS family, as an active member of the Blue Diamonds step team, Voices in Harmony and the Gay Straight Alliance. Collier is an experienced singer, guitarist and a saxophone player in the school band.

Before coming to MSMS, she attended school in Horn Lake. “I’ve always known about MSMS,” she said. Spike Harris and Leonard Wade greatly influenced her choice in coming to MSMS by sponsoring community outreach programs, said Collier.

Like many students who attend MSMS, Collier was not afraid of attending a residential school. She embraced the idea of furthering her education at one of the best schools in the country, even if it meant leaving home.

Collier aspires to become an electrical engineer. She is considering several universities, include Mississippi State and Louisiana State.

Since arriving at MSMS, Collier has made a diverse group of friends and enjoys her days in Introduction to American Film taught by Dr. Thomas Easterling and the many science classes offered. She enjoys watching films and learning about movie creating techniques. She also enjoys the diverse student body makes up MSMS.

“I love to talk to people and helping them to the best of my ability.” she said. T’ensha McDaniel, a close friend, says, “ Tehya gives me great advice. That’s probably one of the reasons we’re such great friends. She’s honest and listens to both sides of the story before giving her opinion.”
