The MSMS Lady Waves soccer team’s winning streak came to an end Tuesday night, as they suffered a 3-1 loss at Choctaw Central in a Region 4 1A/2A/3A match.

Junior Amber Means scored the only goal and junior Erin Williams had the assist.

“It was a good opportunity for us to see how we would stand against a better team in the playoffs. Although we lost, we learned to keep working hard even when we are down by a goal or two,” junior Erin Williams said.

“After playing a little flat the first half, our girls battled back to make a good game of it,” coach Chuck Yarborough said. “We are still building back to form and players are getting healthy for a push at the end of the season.  We’ll need to continue to build and improve as we move through our final district matches.”

The MSMS girls fell to 7-2-1 overall, 3-1 in Region play.

The MSMS Blue Waves fell to Choctaw Central 3-1 as well.

Senior David Thaggard scored the lone goal for MSMS on a direct free kick.

“We played well. The other team just scored two more goals than we did. Moving forward, I believe we should learn to communicate more and play with greater intensity,” said senior captain, David Thaggard.

“Our team started the game flat, meaning we just didn’t find a team rhythm. We did settle down, then started possessing the ball and creating attacks to goal. I was proud of the team’s effort in game,” said MSMS Blue Waves coach, Morri Mims.

“It was a good game until the unfortunate incident at the end, and I wasn’t allowed to play for the last minute and a half. I plan on blocking more goals going into the next game,” said junior goalkeeper, Advaith Sunil.

The MSMS boys fell to 2-7-1, 1-3 in Region.

The next game takes place January 30, 2018 against Winona at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
