“The End of the [Frick,Fracking] World” : A TV-Series Review

If you are tired of the same boring plot over and over again and you want something different, then this is the show for you. By different, I mean something that is awkward, makes you slightly uncomfortable, but something that is very entertaining. “End of the F***ing World” is a Netflix Original telling the story of two teenagers named James and Alyssa, played by Alex Lawfur and Jessica Barden, who go on a road trip to find Alyssa’s father, leaving their troubled families at home.
This easy Netflix binge is based on a comic by Charles Forsman named, you guessed it, “End of the F***ing World.” The show is loosely based on the comics, but definitely covers the main themes of the comics: you do not have to be alone, no matter how weird or possibly psycho you are and once you start to break laws, the world becomes a much more dangerous place.
James is a normal teenage guy with just a little twist: he thinks he is a psychopath and wants to kill someone, and he finds his target: Alyssa. Alyssa is just your normal teenage girl that needs a little bit of anger counseling and maybe a new family.
The show focuses on these two English characters that are a bit odd in nature. They have a connection with one another and develop a unique relationship that becomes very charming by the end of the series. They have a lot of “adventures” that end with a huge cliffhanger.
I personally think that the acting in this TV show was very good. It is very hard to play a character that does not act like a normal human being. Actors are taught how to be natural on camera and all of a sudden, you have to be the opposite of that. The way the two main characters acted with one another leads to great chemistry but in a terribly awkward way that worked great for the series.
I also think that they fit the part effortlessly. They both were not your typical perfect looking celebrities that make many young adults question the way they look. They looked odd and not what you would necessarily see on TV; they looked like real people.
I think the plot was very interesting. It gives a different outlook on the world. It takes you to a different place, where things are dark and uncomfortable, but one thing is for sure: It is interesting. You want to know what happens next. It is a perfect binge. I think that is one of the most important traits of the show.
To conclude, this dark comedy is definitely worth the watch. It is paced well, and is a relatively short season for viewing (I finished it in one morning!) It is something different, that I feel many ages would enjoy because it could appeal to teenagers, but also the dark humor could appeal to more mature age groups. I would say to put this at the top of your Netflix binge list and watch it soon as possible (before it becomes too mainstream).
