Around this time of year, the temperature starts to drop and MSMS prepares for Fall Preview Day. This event starts around noon and hosts prospective students so that they can tour the campus, look in on classes and communicate with students and teachers. This year, Fall Preview Day fell on Friday, Oct. 27.

Due to Fall Preview Day requiring lots of planning and setting up, MSMS’s emissaries help the process by taking on several roles. Some of their duties include helping lost parents or students, leading tours, serving on the student panel and simply answering any questions that they are asked throughout the day.

“Fall Preview Day is a great opportunity for prospective students and parents to come see our campus, meet our teachers, interact with our students, ask questions and to find out if MSMS is a good fit for them,” said Mariat Thankachan, an MSMS Emissary. This senior also stated, “MSMS is a stepping stone to an opportunity for excellence, and sometimes they don’t realize that. Coming to MSMS, seeing the campus and seeing what we do here helps them realize that maybe this is something that can help them in their journey while they find their passions, interests and who they are.”

Fall Preview Day does not only keep the Emissaries busy, but the faculty and staff have numerous responsibilities as well. The Office of Admissions and Advancement can be one of the busiest departments during this time. Mrs. Shelia Horton-Brown, the Administrative Assistant, has her own view of what Fall Preview Day is.

“I’m really happy that each year we have Fall Preview Day, and students from all over the state can come out and view the school,” Mrs. Horton-Brown said. She added, “I love how prospective students get to meet current students on the student panel, as well as parents of the prospective students get to communicate with the parents of current MSMS students on the parent panel.”

Prospective students ended the day touring around campus and seeing what student life is truly like.

“Since being here at MSMS, I’ve learned that the faculty are welcoming that the environment is warm, and that it is not like what is presented to me on the internet. I thought it might be boring but it has actually turned out to be a great experience,” stated Geneva Hamilton, a sophomore at Lake Cormorant.

MSMS hopes that every student enjoyed themselves on Fall Preview Day and considers eventually joining the student body.
