Introducing the Athlete of the Week: Hamilton Wan. Hamilton, a junior, went to Starkville High before coming to MSMS. He swam for Shockwave Aquatics, the community swim team in Starkville, and is continuing his swimming career here at MSMS.

Along with swimming, Wan participates in an array of classes, including University United States History, University English, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, Integrated Computer Science and Instrumental Performance.

Wan commented on how he makes time for swim with the rigor of his classes.

Luckily, swim practice is in the morning, so there is not really a conflict with my classes. That being said, it is really difficult to get up at 5:45 in the morning after a night of homework. In my opinion, the hardest class I’m taking is University U.S. History,” Wan stated.

Wan is also active in many different clubs. He participates in Chess Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Model Security Council, Physics Club, Chemistry Club, Philosophy Club and Science Bowl. He is also a member of the SGA Senate.

Victoria Gong, a junior and fellow swimmer for the Blue Waves, commented on her teammate.

“He’s a dedicated swimmer and a dependable teammate in addition to being a math god.” That’s right, Hamilton is currently enrolled in University Calculus III at MUW. He will actually run out of math classes to take by the end of this year.

So far, Wan has competed in two of the three meets of the season. Wan stated what he loves most about being on the swim team. “I enjoy being able to stay in shape. Further, it’s more about self-improvement than anything else.”

“I look forward to improving my swimming in these next two years at MSMS,” stated a hopeful Wan.
