Biology Club Coming to Life
September 11, 2017
Biology Club started the new year with an interest meeting last Thursday. The meeting consisted of discussing the club’s future plans.
Biology Club meetings typically involve talking about biology topics and professions in the biology field. Sometimes guest speakers and Centers for Disease Control employees will attend the meeting to talk to the club members. Members plan on attending local hospitals and other places related to the biology field, but will also discuss their own research amongst themselves.
Many club members are looking forward to this year, including juniors who are looking forward to a new experience. “I joined Biology Club because even though I am not going into a biology-oriented field, I feel that it will provide me with experiences that will apply to more than just biology. I am most excited about the potential competition and field trips we plan to attend in the future,” said junior member Loveish Sarolia.
Last year, the club was not started until halfway through the year and was not very active. “I am excited for what we can accomplish with the full school year,” Kevin Liao, senior, said.
Biology Club has many plans for the upcoming year. Members are hoping for more speakers and professionals related to Biology to come in and talk with the club. They plan to have many meetings throughout the year.
Biology club president Yousef Abu-Salah is working hard to make this a great experience.
“Biology Club was created last year, but it never really got going. I hopefully want to change that this year, and I want to be able to become a main staple of MSMS. I want to pursue something in neuroscience when I get bigger, and this fits my purpose well. We will be applying to become part of the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), and this should also allow us to really make our club both official and have merit,” says Abu-Salah.
Biology club meetings are held in room 216, Dr. Gibson’s room. The regular meeting days are still to be announced.
