Young Republicans Look to Get Involved
August 28, 2017
The Young Republicans Club, one of the three political clubs at MSMS, met last Thursday to discuss plans for the year.
Club president, Joseph Mimbs III, hopes to organize a forum with the Young Democrats and Young Independents clubs some time in the year.
“We talked about possibly doing a forum, instead of a debate, and discussing the republican platform,” said club sponsor, Mrs. Angela Jones.
Possible topics include health care, taxation, foreign trade, immigration, and questions from the audience. The forum may have a suggested donation of a few dollars with proceeds going to the Forgotten Stories club’s efforts to raise awareness and support of tragedies around the world. As well as the forum, an assembly with Mississippi Republican legislators is pending.
On Saturday, members attended a seminar organized by the non-profit Mississippi Votes at Mississippi State University. The nonpartisan, non-profit organization trained attendees in canvassing and effective ways of encouraging voter registration.
Officer elections for vice-president, secretary, and treasurer took place the following meeting on Monday, August 28th.
“Last year, we stayed busy since it was election year. The group held several meetings to discuss what was happening in news related to the election,” stated member Kenadi Freeman.
Freeman remains hopeful club members can get involved in community service and have a successful year.
“It’s gonna be a good year I guarantee,” said Mimbs.
