Having existed for over five years now on the campus of MUW, International Night is an event where students from around the world share their cultures with the community here in order to create diversity and promote acceptance.

This event’s main goal is to allow people to understand how much diversity international students bring to the campus as well as being able to understand the sheer beauty of this diversity. After working and planning for over a month, this event was finally able to come to life.

We had worked for almost a month to plan this event and execute the performances…I felt accomplished after seeing such a big crowd in the audience. People loved the show and we got very good feedback from the faculty and the community members as well,” said Urusha Silwal, president and organizer of the event.

MSMS students were able to attend this event, and in the process, they were able to experience many differing cultures. With students and volunteers originating from countries ranging from Nepal to Japan, this event allowed both MSMS students and MUW students to experience diversity that even MSMS wouldn’t be able to provide.

These students and volunteers engaged in various activities throughout the event, with traditional dancing and singing composing the majority of talents and culture events that the event showcased. Towards the end of the event, many different people dressed in a variety of traditional clothing began to appear on stage. Eventually, they all gathered on stage and the sending off the event and speaking about how important diversity and this event’s message is.

The main purpose of the event was to promote diversity and share the knowledge about different cultures and music,” Silwal said. “Promoting diversity is very important because not only America our world is getting globalized…In our daily lives, we  encounter diverse people at work, shopping malls–almost everywhere–so it always helps to have some knowledge regarding others culture and traditions.”
