Continuing The Vision

A Letter From the Editor

While few people celebrate the 20-odd anniversary of anything as a monumental occasion, the student-reported, -written, and -published MSMS newspaper, The Vision, is looking forward to celebrating another year of publication during this 2015-2016 school year.

Begun in the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’s second year of existence, The Vision staff worked and played under the watchful gaze of advisor Jack Carter for 25 years. This year, however, The Vision staff is setting off on its inaugural flight without Carter, under the instruction of Debbie Montgomery, a career journalist and public relations director.

During the summer, The Vision also experienced a drastic “facelift” complete with an entirely new online set-up and the potential for a more enhanced end-of-the-year print edition. To fully capitalize on these new opportunities and continue the vision of The Vision, we, the staff, plan to publish online weekly and incorporate the entire MSMS community within our reporting.

Everything from news-worthy videos to letters to the editor will be featured in this year’s The Vision. With weekly updates, we also hope to keep the entire MSMS community up to date with the constant hubbub of events from the perspectives of student journalists.

For the busy student, we wish to provide a few laughs between enlightening stories on previously under-represented facets of MSMS. For faculty and parents, we plan to include a student perspective to the continuous ongoings at MSMS. For alumni, we hope to spark a few memories through stories of traditional and new MSMS events.

On behalf of the entire staff of The Vision, I would like to restate the many things the MSMS community has heard repeatedly during the first few weeks of this school year: Welcome and good luck in all your endeavors on and off the MSMS campus!

Through numerous typesets, countless hues of blue, and multiple plays on the word “vision,” the logo of The Vision has vastly changed throughout its 26 years.
