As hopeful seniors all across the United States cautiously venture into the unknown world of colleges, high school freshmen and sophomores in Mississippi start to gain curiosity about what their future could hold if they went to MSMS, which is “specifically designed to meet the needs of the state’s most academically gifted and talented.”
On Friday, Nov. 11, prospective students and their parents eagerly filed into the seats of Nissan Auditorium, prepared to take in all the wonders that MSMS has to offer.
Before they started to put their efforts into the application process, the students wanted to learn about life at Mississippi’s only residential public high school.
“MSMS is very welcoming as I’ve seen so far. It seems like a very friendly place and I’d be excited to apply,” said Cecil Roberts, hopeful candidate for the upcoming junior class.
During the event, the guests received the opportunity to meet and talk with teachers, parents, and current MSMS students.
Previews and presentations were put on by emissaries and students as a form of entertainment and method of displaying the elements that make MSMS unique. The performances and displays included the Blue Notes, Tales From The Crypt, Mu Alpha Theta, a discussion panel, and even a science lab.
Current students were also thrilled to be a part of Fall Preview Day.
“I think Fall Preview Day is great because we get to meet some of the upcoming juniors and because it gets MSMS’s name out there. I didn’t know about Fall Preview Day, so I’ve just been telling all of the sophomores in my old school about it so that they can come explore MSMS,” said AK Mynatt, an MSMS junior.
