Friday, October 28th, was a day for fall festivities at the Boys & Girls Club, where numerous MSMS students mentor during the weekdays.

Owing to the Halloween season, the club hosted a Fall Festival and MSMS students volunteered to direct different stations at the event.

Jenny Nguyen, one of the senior volunteers, stated, “When I learned about the Fall Festival, I thought, ‘This is an amazing opportunity to do some kind of outreach for our community,’ and since they were doing a Fall Festival, we thought, ‘Well why not bring a carnival game to them,’ and so our student government thought of doing a bucket toss, where the students have to toss the balls into a bucket and then they receive prizes. It’s just a good opportunity for us to go out there and build on the ideals that MSMS was founded upon.”

The Boys and Girls Club invited a unique variety of organizations and groups, such as dance teams and an orchestra, to provide entertainment for the children and help them gain insight into what their community has to offer. Donning their Halloween costumes, the kids participated in engaging games like the bucket toss, watched informational presentations, and received a bountiful supply of sweets. Aside from the bucket toss, MSMS students also offered a station to face paint colorful rainbows and butterflies.

“The purpose of the Fall Festival is to bring something positive into the community and invite the community in to get a chance to meet our kids and see some of the different things we do here. Plus, we look to provide a safe environment for them during the Halloween season,” said Boys’ and Girls’ Club Unit Director Brittany Turner.

Judging by the wide smiles and energetic chatter, it is safe to say that the kids had a blast at their festival.
