Meet your new Junior Class Officers
September 26, 2016
After weeks of campaigning with catchy posters, exchanging little trinkets and preparing speeches, the officers for the class of 2018 have been elected. Four juniors have now taken the responsibilities that come with these positions. In charge of organizing prom and handling any other junior class affairs, the roles of the officers are pretty important.
John Bowlin, the new Junior Class Vice President, and Sabrina Solomon, the new Class Secretary, agree that they were both nervous and excited during the campaign and election process. Despite the preparations he took, Bowlin says, “I felt good about it. No matter what happened, I knew I would still have the support of my classmates.”
In addition, Calisa Henry, the Class Historian, says, “I was pretty excited to have the opportunity because I had served as the historian of multiple clubs at my old school so it was kinda like keeping a tradition going.”
Jackson Sparkman, the elected Junior Class President, says, “I felt great about the election; I knew anyone who got elected would do a fantastic job.”
Sparkman shared why he ran for the job. “I decided to run because I thought that I can make our school a better place by creating a positive, great prom and making sure that our students at MSMS always have a fantastic time and ensuring that any problems for the junior class are properly addressed and given enough attention,” he states.
Bowlin said, “From the first day I arrived at MSMS, I knew I wanted to become more involved in the student body and student government. By serving the student government, I wanted to make improvements in the school for every student here at MSMS.”
Solomon described her passion for the position, “I want to be secretary because I want to be involved in a club that meant something to me and I knew that I could help everybody by being part of SGA. I have awesome ideas for prom themes and I’m very good at taking notes and writing down details.”
Henry explained, “I decided to be a historian because I was the historian of multiple clubs at my old school and I heard that the historian made prom t-shirts and I have a bunch of ideas for that. I felt like historian would be a fitting position for me.”
The officers have been in the midst of discussing ideas for prom. Sparkman feels that prom is the “biggest way we can give back to our school and community.
“I would love put on a prom that can benefit more than our students, while giving them a great event.” Henry adds that she would be happy to “recommend any ideas to the rest of the officers so everybody gets a say!”
