MSMS Tennis in Full Swing as Playoffs Approach
April 25, 2016
The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science tennis team is in full swing as it hits playoffs. For the past three months, the team has been competing against local schools, playing both home and away games.
Senior Meilun Zhou, a tennis player for four years, is proud of the Blue Waves’ season.
“I’m pretty confident that our team will finish play offs this year. We have a very solid team, a good mix of guys and girls,” said Zhou.
On April 18, the MSMS tennis team competed against Kossuth. The match ended with a final score of 5-2, with MSMS taking the victory. Zhou says he is happy with how his team played.
“I think the team works well together. We have a very solid guys lineup as well as a strong girls lineup,” Zhou said. “The guys have been playing their spots for the whole year and are able to work together well.”
Zhou went on to list the heap of achievements of the MSMS tennis game.
“MSMS’ performance this year was phenomenal. While last year we had some great seniors, the juniors this year filled the gap really well. I believe the Boys Doubles 2, Noah McKone and John Howell, two juniors, are undefeated in our district, a pretty big accomplishment for anyone,” said Zhou. “Morgan Dollar, another junior, takes the spot of Girls Doubles 1. She is not only undefeated, but has also come in clutch when we need her to play for singles.”
Senior Aylin Memili, a tennis player for seven years, is also happy with how the team has been doing.
“I’m very proud of the team and am hopeful for obtaining good results at State,” Memili said. “The team and I are entering the playoffs quite confidently. We have practiced many days each week, and I believe it has paid off. After a huge success in our district tournament, the playoffs don’t seem so intimidating,” Memili contended. “The team works very well with each other. I’m lucky to have met great juniors and seniors willing to put in the effort.”
As they begin to enter into playoffs, the MSMS tennis team must keep its eye on the ball to end the season with a win.
