Starting on Friday, April 8, MSMS will be hosting its Alumni Weekend for the classes of 1991, 1996, 2006 and 2011. Although all MSMS alumni are welcome to attend events on Friday and Saturday, these specific classes will be hosting seminars for current MSMS students and participating in a rotation of sentimental events.

Classes for current students are to be shortened on April 8, as they will be required to attend at least three alumni seminars in the afternoon from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. The sign-up sheet for these seminars is in Hooper computer lab, and slots are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Each seminar will last 45 minutes, and students will be allowed to sign-out for normal weekend activities after 5 p.m. on Friday. The class block schedule for April 8 is as follows:

1st period: 8 a.m. – 8:35 a.m.

2nd period: 8:40 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.

3rd period: 9:20 a.m. – 9:55 a.m.

The seminars offered by alumni are “Open Source Organizations: Not Everyone Needs To Code” by Wesley Duffee-Braun, ’98, in Hooper Auditorium; “Geographical Information Systems And You” by Sepideh Miller, ’96, in Hogarth Club Room; “Introduction To Intellectual Property Law” by Michael Goggans, ’91, in the W Room; “The Environmental Offset Industry And Ecosystem Restoration In Mississippi” by Cindy Henderson, ’95, in Hogarth Auditorium; and “Putting Foreign Language To Use” by Kurt Smith, ’06, in the Hogarth Recreation Room.

While current MSMS students take part in Alumni Weekend from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. on Friday for the seminars, the weekend of events does not stop there for alumni. Following seminars, alumni are invited to their reunion reception before taking part in a Tales from the Crypt performance.

On Saturday, April 9, alumni are encouraged to take tours of campus and attend a seminar on the Future of MSMS by MSMS Executive Director Germain McConnell. He will be revealing MSMS’s plan for continued excellence while explaining what MSMS alumni can do to help this plan. Alumni will also be given the opportunity for questions or comments directed to Dr. McConnell.

After the Future of MSMS seminar, alumni are invited to attend the MSMS Foundation meeting at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will learn about efforts being made by other alumni to enhance the future of MSMS.

Class pictures for the classes of ‘91, ‘96, ‘06 and ‘11 will be from 11:15 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before a visit to downtown Columbus for lunch. Alumni will go to a Reunion Luncheon at Huck’s Place at noon and attend Alumni Trivia Face-Off at 3 p.m.. Each class will select a representative to compete in an ultimate game of trivia along with members of the current classes of MSMS.

To finish off the weekend, alumni are invited to the Rosenswig Arts Center in downtown for Mississippi Brews, Bites, and Blues from 6p.m. to 11 p.m. This party will feature music by Dawn Barham, and libations will be provided by Lazy Magnolia of Kiln.
