Nine MSMS soccer players earned All-District Honors last week at the Region 3 1A/2A/3A Coaches meeting in Philadelphia.

For the MSMS Lady Waves, Senior Defenders Rashana Jones and Madeline Mixon and Junior Midfielder Hannah Houston were named 1st team All-District in Region 3 1A/2A/3A.  Junior Midfielder Darby Meadows and Goalkeeper Anna Klae Leland were named All-District 2nd team. Mixon, also the MSMS Lady Waves team captain, was awarded Defensive MVP for the district.

“I feel honored and shocked that I was even considered for the award, so winning it was a great surprise,” said Leland. “At the beginning of the season, I didn’t even imagine myself playing much during games, so winning the award was a surprise to say the least.”

Coach Chuck Yarborough said, “It’s great to see the coaches in our district recognize the hard work and commitment of these players. These individual awards really reflect the commitment to team that helped us return to the playoffs this season.”

For the MSMS Blue Waves, Senior Midfielder Kobe Van Someren and Goalkeeper Kameron Chow were named 1st team All-District in Region 3 1A/2A/3A.  Senior Defender Boone Leetran and Midfielder Nathan Methvin were named All-District 2nd team. Leetran was also named Defensive MVP for the district, and Chow was named Goalkeeper MVP for the district.

“It’s an honor to win this award. I couldn’t have done it without such great teammates to play with,” said Chow. “I had a lot of fun playing this year. I wish we could’ve played a little longer but that’s how the season goes sometimes. I wish the best of luck to the juniors soccer players and their season next year.”

Boys’ coach Dylan Mims said, “These awards are a fitting finale to a successful season for our boys. We’ll use the performance of these young men to inspire our team next season.”

Although the main focus at MSMS is academics, almost half the student body participates in at least one of the four offered sports: tennis, swimming, cross country and soccer.
