The MSMS Soccer Club concluded its first tournament of the year on March 23, with senior Yash Malhotra and juniors Isabel Beckman and Simranjit Kaur placing first after a two-day competition with eight teams.
The second-place team included juniors Annaliese Coughlin, Grant Zhang and Acyn Harrell.
The tournament was formatted in the double-elimination style, meaning a team was eliminated once it lost two games. This allowed every team to adjust after a win or a loss.
Malhotra said the tournament was well-organized for being the club’s first event of the year.
“It was well played out,” Malhotra said. “Of course, being the first tournament, there are going to be ups and downs.”
Junior Allen Lewis, co-president of the Soccer Club, said the tournament was a challenge to set up, but everyone had fun.
“We had a few hiccups, but I think overall we succeeded. We wanted to get people excited [for Soccer Club], and the tournament just worked for that,” Lewis said.
The soccer club intends to hold another tournament before the end of the school year.
