Whether students believe it or not, Princess Leia and Han Solo, the Obamas, Mickey and Minnie all attended MSMS’s Sadie Hawkin’s dance this past Saturday. The dance’s theme being famous couples, brought classic Disney duos such as Beauty and the Beast, TV couples such as Cristina Yang and Owen Hunt from Grey’s Anatomy and Glenn and Maggie from The Walking Dead, movie pairings such as Wendy Peffercorn and Squints from The Sandlot, and current pop culture couples such as Childish Gambino and Jhene Aiko and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Senior Sydney Melton, who went as Wendy Peffercorn, said, “It was a lot of fun to dress up as a character from one of my all time favorite movies!”

Melton talks about assembling her costume. “My costume was pretty easy to put together. Luckily, I already work as a lifeguard over the summers so I just wore my lifeguard T-shirt, red Nike shorts, and put my hair in a ponytail and curled it. I even has white sunglasses to top it all off!”

Angie Harri said, “My date really liked Childish Gambino, so I just kinda rolled with his idea. He went as Childish Gambino and I went as Jhene Aiko, his girlfriend.”

Senior Grant Henderson, who went as Owen Hunt, said, “Grey’s Anatomy is one of my favorite TV shows, so it was fun wearing scrubs and being a doctor for a night.”

Before the dance began, there was also a costume competition, which was judged by Coach Veleria Scott and the Residential Life staff. The first place winner was Greta Koshenina and Christian Donoho as Archer and Lana from the TV show Archer, second place Darby Meadows and Lewis Park as Glenn and Maggie from “The Walking Dead,” and third place was Om Patel and Caroline Smith as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
