MSMS Soccer Off to a Rainy Start
January 4, 2016
By this time of the year, the Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science soccer team, which some consider to be the most popular sport of the school, is usually well underway playing games both near and far. This year is different because four games have been cancelled or rescheduled due to rain.
MSMS Senior Caleb Marshall, a new recruit to the team, said the rain has been rather discouraging.
“This is my first year playing soccer so I’ve been really anxious to get on the field,” said Marshall, “but, the rain keeps delaying that.”
Marshall may be disappointed, but he remains confident in his team’s abilities.
“It really stinks that we had to miss so many games early on in the season, but we aren’t going to let that stop us from kicking some tail!” he said.
Senior Kobe Van Someren, team captain, is also rather disappointed with the start of his last year as a high school soccer player.
“I’ve been playing soccer for several years,” said Van Someren, “so this rain has made my last year as a high school player pretty disappointing so far.”
In spite of this disappointment, Van Someren is doing his best to remain confident and excited.
“I’m still super excited to get back on the field,” he said, “and I doubt this weather can keep our team from winning games.”
