I attended the Smoke Out as a Barbecue Pit Master and Here’s What Happened

MUW and MSMS students socialize at the cookout

I’m just like everyone else at this school. I go to class every day, I write lab reports and research papers, and I plan on going to college sometime in the near future. But what people don’t know is that I’m practically a barbecue pit master.

What credentials do I have? That’s not important.

You can imagine the excitement I felt when I heard about the “Smoke Out” event held by MUW at the Gazebo. You can also imagine my further excitement when I found I could not only report on it for the Vision and grab a wellness seminar in the process, but I could also lend my expert advice in critiquing the BBQ.

The venue itself was pretty solid. There were plenty of people coming and going, and personally, I thought the music was pretty lit. Props to the DJ.

When I rolled up, the Blue Knights and Blue Diamonds were turning up in front of the gazebo. Shout out to them.

Now, as a seasoned long-time barbecue enthusiast, the first thing I look for is presentation. I asked for both kinds they were serving, but they didn’t give it to me. No big deal in the long run, I just think they didn’t realize who they were serving. I went with a pork barbecue sandwich, baked beans, and unsweet tea because I was too lazy to stand in line for sweet tea.

The presentation seemed hasty. It took some fixing, but I finally managed to get a working sandwich going. When I finally got around to eating, the barbecue was pleasantly sweet and the texture was as barbecue should be. There was a perfect balance between being moist but not sliding out of my sandwich in a soup.

Finally, the most important part was the sauce. The sauce added the perfect amount of flavor without being overpowering. My only regret was not getting more.

In the end, the barbecue was barbecue, but it has my barbecue pit master seal of approval.
