MSMS Gives Back to the Community: Canned Food Drive
November 9, 2015
For the second consecutive year, MSMS’s LaToya Bledsoe has organized a canned food drive for a local family in need. Faculty and students are chipping in to help a Columbus family celebrate Thanksgiving with canned foods and other non-perishables. Collection boxes are available in both of the residential dorms for donated items. The drive is ending on Nov 18, 2015.
The chosen family will also be invited to Bledsoe’s “What Are You Thankful For?” program on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.in Hogarth Auditorium. There, a presentation will be made on behalf of participating MSMS students.
Bledsoe said, “Community service and giving back is a passion of mine, and I want our students to be able to give back in any way possible through service. Service is one of the MSMS ideals, and I believe that the Columbus/Lowndes County community needs to see our students in action.”
She also said, “My favorite part is being able to help others and giving back. Last year, we donated our canned foods and non-perishable items to one of the families in Columbus who lost their home in a tragic apartment complex fire that killed a Columbus Middle School female student. A representative from the family attended my program last year where the presentation was made and was very appreciative of MSMS for thinking of them.”
Donations will be accepted in designated boxes in both the boys and girls dorms. Canned foods and non-perishables will be accepted.
