Edith Marie: Putting Good into the World
October 20, 2018
Edith Marie Green, an MSMS emissary for the 2018-2019 school year, is one of many inspiring students whose positivity infects everyone around her.
Green said described how she kept her motivation up through junior year: “There were a lot of ups and downs, but at the end, there was a goal. Keep your eyes on the prize.”
Her positivity radiates to juniors who are struggling, and she doesn’t hesitate to lend a hand. Green also has come to realize that MSMS has helped her find her love for math. Though she hopes to find a career in teaching history, she comments that Dr. Benge has impacted her the most while being at MSMS: “He put up with me, and he knew I would like calculus even when I didn’t know I would like calculus.”
It is easy to see why Green is an emissary, considering the poise with which she gives advice to juniors going through the struggles of their first year at MSMS: “Don’t give up. This place teaches you what you’re made of.”
Green is definitely doing her part to try to change the world. After putting up with bullying in her earlier years of school, she feels that she needs to “put more good into the world.” And with all the negativity and hate that goes around nowadays, who can blame her?
With bullying becoming more common over different things, such as being in the LGBT+ community, any positivity and encouragement is beginning to be more rare, and therefore, more appreciated. October 10th is “National Coming Out Day,” which is an outlet for those who are not able to come out as a part of the community (or just are not ready to do so), as Green commented.
“It’s okay. You are still a valid person. You don’t have to tell people for it to be true. Keep fighting the good fight as much as you can, and just always try to be a good person. Maybe one day you can come out, and that would be pretty neat,” says Green.
