Many people know that The Vision is the school newspaper for MSMS, but not everyone knows where the articles come from. For now, students enrolled in the journalism class, held on Monday nights from 5:30 to 6:00, are the writers and editors for The Vision. However, MSMS will soon be offering a new journalism club called The Fourth Estate.

Members of this club will likely be required to attend meetings that coincide with the journalism classes that are already held on Monday nights, and they will each write an article  that will be edited and published in The Vision. They will gain experience in the field of journalism, and they will learn how to operate The Vision for next school year.

President and editor-in-chief, Rachel Bobo said, “The ‘Fourth Estate’ is a term for the news media and all things communication, and, since this club is a journalism club, it seemed to fit. During meetings, which will most likely occur with journalism class, we will listen to guest speakers who have experience in the field of journalism and discuss varying aspects of media convergence and our own publication.” She urges prospective members to come to the open house on Monday, October 5 for pizza and more information on the club and journalism class.

Carly Sneed, the vice president of The Fourth Estate, had one thing to say to future members. “Journalism makes you brave. You have to be brave to interview people in positions of authority above you, and ask them the questions in desperate need of an answer. You have to be even braver to publish all of that online. My advice is to let journalism make you brave, and worry about everything else later,” she said.

More information will be given about The Fourth Estate and future journalism operations in the open house on Monday, October 5. People are encouraged to come, eat pizza and support their newspaper The Vision.
