MSMS Swim Team Dives Into First Meet
September 10, 2015
Nine members of the MSMS swim team traveled to Tupelo to participate in the season’s first swim meet. Coached by resident assistant Daniel Rogers and MSMS chemistry teacher Michelle Leonard, the team had three swimmers to place in the top three in freestyle and backstroke competitions.
Junior Madison McClean placed second overall in the Girls’ 50 Freestyle and senior Rhet Hailey placed second overall in the Boys’ 100 Backstroke.
Hailey also placed third in the Boys 50 Freestyle and Angie Harri earned third overall in the Girls’ 100 Backstroke.
Harri, team captain, said the team is determined to improve and prepare for their next meet. “Some of us are trying to eat healthier,” she said.
Senior Mary Madeline Lamastus is also excited for the juniors, who she described as having a “lot of potential.”
All but one swimmer competing placed times for North State, the semi-finalist regional swim meet in November. The team will still have plenty of opportunities to qualify for North State.
Junior Madison McClean said she is proud that her second place in the 50 freestyle helped earn points for the MSMS team.
The swim team will compete on Saturday in Amory and on Monday in Starkville. Senior Caleb Marshall said, “Next meet, we will do even better because we are going to work hard at practices and do our best!”
