On the first weekend in January, MSMS continued its annual tradition of hosting Senior Tribute. A portion of the Class of 2017 came to see the event, in which a total of 118 juniors, and a few of this year’s seniors, were assigned to play the roles of the recently graduated class.

Alumni Affairs secretaries, seniors Sydney Matrisciano, Alana Andrus and Jackson Sparkman, were responsible for putting together this event. They began brainstorming in Spring of 2017, and continued to work on organizing the event when the 2017-2018 school year began in August.

Matrisciano described how she and the rest of the secretaries organized Senior Tribute. “The very first thing we did, Gary [Nguyen, SGA President] gave us a list of all the junior names, and we found a list of all the senior names, and we started with the obvious matches and slowly we got everyone else taken care of,” Matrisciano said.

Andrus also worked with the rest of the secretaries to write the scripts. Andrus said, “We started with this big list of groups and chose the most notable of them. After that, we thought about how each person would act and began putting those conversations on paper. After it was all on paper, we made sure it actually made sense and lined up with the personality of each individual.”

The secretaries did their best to accurately portray their seniors through the scripts. This required contacting students from the Class of 2017 or friends of the Class.

Junior Mia DiMarco, who played Kate Shelton, said she enjoyed the event and the chance to meet the senior she portrayed. “I was scared that I offended [Kate Shelton], but she came up to me at the dance and she [said she loved it],” DiMarco said. “It was a blast from the past.”

Andrus summarized her feelings towards the event positively. “Overall, I think Senior Tribute was a huge success. I know all the grand seniors I talked to enjoyed it, and I know the juniors warmed up to it after a while. I am very proud of how all of the Alumni Affairs did with the event, and I can’t wait to see what our juniors do for us next year!”
