The MSMS cross country team had its first training session on Monday, August 14, at the running track in Stark Activity Center. The team met “to get a basis of where the individual skill levels are,” said David Thaggard, captain of the boy’s team.

The first practice was a two-mile, timed run. Since then, the team has done speed work and two recovery runs.

“The season is looking better than last year because of more skilled and dedicated members,” Thaggard went on to say. These members ran to the local riverwalk for their second practice.

“I am excited for the upcoming season because it will be a good way to get exercise and have fun while doing so,” added junior River Gordon.

For the first official practice on August 22, the team will meet in front of Goen Hall and depart at 4:25 p.m. en route to Columbus High School to run on the school’s track.

At press time, Thaggard did not know when the first meet would be. The team is still accepting new members and is looking forward to a victorious season.
